Library Theodoret Compendium of Heretical Fables

On the Psathyrians

From Arius’s blasphemy again another segment broke off. These say: God is Father, and the Son also is always created by God. For in God’s case creating and begetting are the same. The Antiochenes name these Psathyrians; for they say the leader of the heresy was a maker of such cakes.

And others again, separating from them, were called by some Cyrtians, by others Pithecians, after a certain little manikin who had a high back, who went out with them and arranged for this surname to be imposed on them.

Later in time another assembly also formed, separating from the Arians; and they received their designation from the impiety. For they were named Douleianoi, daring to call the only-begotten Son of God a slave of the Father. Using a syllogism of this sort they construct the blasphemy: Every creature, they say, is a slave of the one who made it; but the Son is a creature of the Father. So many occasions for blasphemies they took from Arius’s madness; into so many segments even Arius’s faction was divided.
