Library Theodoret Compendium of Heretical Fables

On the Macedonians

Yet another heresy besides those mentioned sprouted from these, supposed to be less impious. For when the all-praiseworthy Paul, who shepherded the imperial city, had been driven out by those who received Arius’s disease, Macedonius was entrusted in his place with the helm of that Church. This Macedonius utterly repudiated that the Son is consubstantial with the Father; but he legislated that he be called like in all things, and invented “of like substance” instead of “consubstantial.” But the Holy Spirit he continued to blaspheme similarly to Arius and Eunomius. Whence those of his faction are also called Pneumatomachi. From there the weed of the Macedonians was also sown.
