Library Theodoret Compendium of Heretical Fables

On the Cainites

Others, whom they name Cainites, say that Cain too was redeemed from the authority above, and Esau, and Korah, and the Sodomites; and they confess all such as their own kin, and say that these were hated by the Maker, yet received no harm. For wisdom snatched away from them what it had in them; and they say that Judas the betrayer alone of all the apostles had this knowledge, and for this reason performed the mystery of the betrayal. They also put forward a Gospel of his, which those men have composed—for that man immediately received the noose as the wage of the betrayal. And while doing the forbidden things, they recite the name of a certain angel, as if granting the licentiousness to that one; and this they do for each form of license. For they say that there are certain angels equal in number to the forms of license, who are served by the things done.
