Letters and Fragments
c. 318–328
The surviving letters and fragments of Eusebius of Nicomedia (d. 342), Arius’s leading episcopal ally and later bishop of Constantinople: the letter to Paulinus of Tyre on the Son’s creation and begetting; a fragment to Arius on beginning; the homoousios line preserved by Ambrose; and the joint petition with Theognis after exile.
Translated by Blomfield Jackson; Archibald Robertson; A. C. Zenos; H. de Romestin et al. (NPNF)
English from Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Series II: Theodoret, Ecclesiastical History (tr. Blomfield Jackson); Athanasius, De Synodis (tr. Archibald Robertson); Socrates, Ecclesiastical History (tr. A. C. Zenos); Ambrose, Exposition of the Christian Faith (NPNF). Public domain. Digital text via New Advent Church Fathers. In the letter to Paulinus, the clause κτιστὸν … τῇ οὐσίᾳ is aligned to the Greek where Jackson’s “in the same substance” is misleading.
