Isis and Related Festival Days

Source Latin: Chronography of 354, Part 6 (Mommsen 1893). English labels: study rendering. These entries sit beside the December Saturnalia / Natalis Invicti material in the same almanac.

Selected Egyptian-cult and related festival entries from the Philocalian calendar (Part 6), illustrating how Isis rites stood on the official Roman civil calendar in AD 354.

5 March — Isidis Navigium (Ship of Isis).

20 March — Pelusia (associated in later sources with Harpocrates / the Nile mud).

25 April — Serapia (festival of Serapis).

12 August — Lychnapsia (lamp festival; often connected with Isis).

28–31 October — Isia (Isis rites begin).

1 November — Isia continue.

3 November — Hilaria (joyful conclusion of the Isis cycle in this calendar’s reckoning).

Latin text after Theodor Mommsen’s editions of the Chronography of 354 (calendar and Depositio Martyrum). Digital Latin via Roger Pearse, tertullian.org. English glosses: study rendering for BWAB Library.
