Haeresis 51 — Against the Alogi
Closing refutation of those who reject the Spirit’s words
But these, not having received the Holy Spirit, are spiritually examined, not understanding the things of the Spirit and wishing to speak against the words of the Spirit and not knowing the anointings in the holy church, which the Holy Spirit truly and steadfastly narrated in consecutive exposition and with sound mind—both the holy prophets and the holy apostles;
among whom also the holy John, through the Gospel and the epistles and the Apocalypse, has imparted from the same gift of the Holy One to the holy church.
And what was spoken also reaches them: that ‘to the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him either in this age or in the one to come.’ For these also campaigned against the words spoken by the Spirit.
And thinking that what has been said of such and so great a kind against such a heresy is sufficient, and having trampled by the power and truth of God this many-footed serpent called a centipede or iulus—small in force and in the anguish it causes, yet many-footed and long-legged—let us go forward again, beloved, to what follows, with the power of God.
